Yunnan, the southern most province in the People’s Republic of China is world famous for not only amazing tea, it also boasts the country's largest production of flowers. So it seems only natural that, given the prominence of the local floral industry, tea artisans would create a tea in its honour. Floating Lotus boasts 3 flowers in each tea ball. As Rising Lotus brews, it unfolds and mimics the way the lush Yunnan countryside bursts open with colour in the Spring time. The tea is produced by tying Lily, Osmanthus and Jasmine blooms together with steamed full leaves of Yunnan Green Tea. As the tea dries, the flowers are held inside, the way seeds are concealed in the damp earth. Drop the tea into a glass teapot, infuse it and watch the miraculous bloom unfold. The cup, like springtime in Yunnan is bright, with a very full green taste layered with overtones of cut Peach, Jasmine and Lily perfume. Makes the perfect gift! It is important to use water that is extremely hot. Boiling water is required to allow each ball to open up to its full potential.
For consumption - place in a 3-4 cup glass teapot and fill with boiling water. Initially the tea ball will float but as it loses the trapped air during the steeping process it will sink. Once the tea ball has opened to its full potential the tea can be consumed.
For decoration. Allow to steep in a large cup or mug for 20 minutes. Carefully lift out with a spoon, drain for 1 second then transfer the limp looking ball to a wine glass or vase full of cold water. Voila! A beautiful table decoration!
