Well, well, well, look who's winning medals like they're going out of style - yours truly!

Brackendale Tea Co

That's right, Brackendale Tea Co. entered four teas in the Golden Leaf Awards Competition and came out with two shiny golds and a classy silver. Don't worry, we'll try not to let all this fame go to our heads (although we did wonder about getting a custom-made tea kettle with our name on it).

Now, let us tell you, entering a competition like the Golden Leaf Awards was no easy feat. It's not like you can just send in any old tea bag and expect to win. No, no, no. We had to carefully select the teas that we thought had the best chance of winning.

The Cream Earl Grey was a no brainer – our one number seller loved by our customers! This tea was the catalyst to the birth of Brackendale Tea Co way back in 2012 by the founder, Kristie Deen.

Then what else to enter? Going through the categories the “Rooibos Blend” fitted our Cederberg Sunset to a tea (excuse the pun!)

and the “Single Estate Darjeeling” competition screamed OMGoodness Darjeeling as the entrant for that category. Both of these teas we have introduced to the tea menu since taking over ownership of the company.

The other tea we entered was the Taj Mahal Chai, not a winner, but still a darn good chai just the same!

The entries were sent in blind, meaning no labelling apart from a code was allowed on the 25g bag of each. Anthea packed the four teas up in a box and off they went, winging their way to Geelong and to the Australian Tea Masters who organise the competition at the end of August 2022, and then we waited, and waited…and waited!

The competition close date came and went. The competition winner’s announcement date came and went, and just when we were starting to wonder whether we had blown our entrance fee on our tea entrants the results hit our inbox on Christmas Eve with a note explaining the delays were due to it being the most successful Golden Leaf Awards ever! Five hundred and forty entries overall, with some of the categories having over 80 entries!

The judging panel was selected from across both the hospitality and business sectors and included highly experienced chefs, leading wine sommeliers, head baristas, food and wine journalists as well as experienced tea blenders.

So, when we received the emails telling us that we had won two golds and a silver, I have to admit, we were pretty excited. I mean, sure, it's not like winning an Olympic gold medal or anything but it still felt pretty darn good.

And, of course, we had to celebrate our victories in the only way we knew how - with a nice, hot cup of tea. We brewed up a pot of our award-winning OMG Darjeeling (the champagne of tea) and sipped it with happy grins on our faces. Maybe we even did a little happy dance in our kitchen - who's to say?

But all kidding aside, winning these awards was a really proud moment for us. It's a validation of all the hard work and dedication we've put into perfecting the Brackendale Tea Co. Tea Menu. And who knows, maybe next year we'll enter some more teas and perhaps come away with even more medals. The sky's the limit, right?

So, there you have it, folks. We are formally an award-winning Tea Company!

Happy Sipping!

Alex & Anthea
